Ali Hamandi

Ali Hamandi is a Senior Economist in the World Bank’s Europe and Central Asia region, based in Vienna, where his work focuses on long-term care (LTC) financing, service delivery, and systems strengthening. Since joining the World Bank in 2018, he has led projects supporting health and LTC reform across a range of country contexts, from European Union member states to countries across the Western Balkans and South Asia, helping governments design fiscally sustainable care systems and create enabling environments for private sector participation. Recently, he led an assessment of private sector engagement in LTC in North Macedonia, examining how private providers can expand access to and improve the quality of care in an emerging market. He brings to this work a policy perspective shaped by experience working with Canada’s former Minister of Finance and through previous engagements with the Economist Intelligence Unit, Microsoft, and the World Health Organization. Ali holds a PhD in Health Policy from Harvard University and is a Canadian national
